Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should We Care About Arts Education?
Copyrights and the Internet

Q: I’ve been painting for a few years and would like to start showing my work in public. How do I get started?

A: Great! Congratulations on deciding to take the big step out of the studio and into the art world. Some of the basic things you need to consider: getting quality slides made of your best, recent work; having your work framed in the best materials you can afford; and finally, getting organized with complete inventory records of your work and a well written artist statement and resume.

Q: Where can I find artists to commission and/or lists of local artists?

A: Whether you are seeking a single artist to paint a mural or commission to do a family portrait or you need a list of artists to invite to participate in your community festival, the best location is the Clackamas Culture website. This is an interactive resource directory that allows searches by location, medium and name. If you don’t find what you’re looking for there, please feel free to call the Arts Action Alliance and we’ll provide you with additional support.

Q: My family will be hosting relatives from out of state next month. I’d like a listing of events and historical sites to show them while they’re here. Is there something like that available?

A: Sure! There are two great resources for learning about events and historical sites. One is the Clackamas Culture Resource Guide and the other is Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory’s visitor information guide. Browse these two resources for information regarding dates, locations and interests. Looking for something more personal? Q: I am a local artist. How can I be included in your Art in Public Spaces Exhibition Program?

A: We select artists for our exhibition programs through a juried review each spring for the next upcoming calendar year. Please send your artist statement, contact information and 5-10 slides or photographs of your recent work to us anytime. Send information to Exhibition Committee, c/o Arts Action Alliance of Clackamas County (address below). We will include your work in the spring review process. Also, take a moment to go to our online artist registry. This resource gives you the opportunity to have a free listing about yourself and your artwork available on the Internet. You may choose what contact information to list and you may write your own description (up to 250 words). The Exhibition committee will draw from the artist registry for invitational and special events as needed, plus, all artists listed will receive our newsletter, which lists opportunities and events in the area.
